Ali is an Animalian politician and former soldier currently serving under the Animalian Patriotic Front.
He was named after former Yemeni president Ali Abdullah Saleh
He is an anthropomorphic Gordon Setter being one of about two Gordon Setters in the A.P.F. He may be Yemeni but he dresses like he is almost Pakistani as he wears a light green shirt like a Pakistani military uniform, brown green trousers and a brown green marshall jacket whilst in his government time he wears a white shirt, black trousers, a black jacket and a black and white striped tie.
Ali may be Yemeni but he acts like an old style British army officer which is shown through the fact he has a very thick English accent unlike Abdullah who has a slight Arabic accent. He also stands out from other dogs because whilst most dogs such as Hafizullah, Saddam and Saloth startle the Junta babies one of the babies Santiago startles him primarily because of his large eyes often calling him a "bush baby" but this is also just one reason, the second reason is often thought to be that when Ali first meets Santiago he sits in a makeshift pram, fidgets a lot with him whilst sucking a dummy and not saying anything. When he meets with Abdullah, Haidar, Faraj and Muhammed he says "It just sat there fidgeting, and it's eyes...you should have seen his eyes." however Muhammed often says that he over reacts a bit whilst Faraj tells another joke and the other Yemeni dogs start laughing except Ali who finds no humour in Faraj's joke.
Even if he does have a dry sense of humour he treats the other Yemeni dogs like friends and brothers, and whilst everyone else or most animals call Josefina and Santiago "Junta babies" or "Babies of the Junta" the exception being Dilma and her family who call them "Bunker babies" Ali calls them "Fox babies" because he was originally going to call them bush babies because of their large eyes but it would not have worked because they are foxes. He does have extravagant tastes especially during his government time as he collects all sorts of stationary and other things. Nonetheless in battle he is considered a genocidal fighter and leads through betrayal. What this means is that he will usually bribe or blackmail enemies to fight alongside him and once they are finished with he executes them. His nature is also shown particularly during one battle in Animalia where he attacks with very little to no warning. Nonetheless he is good with young Junta children and the Junta babies even if he is startled by Santiago, even though he does have extravagant tastes in his government time Ali is very professional.
