Benito Mussolini was an Italian politician, writer and journalist who was the leader of the National Facist Party ruling the country as Prime Minister from 1922 until his ousting in 1943. He ruled constitutionally until 1925, when he dropped all pretense of democracy and set up a legal dictatorship. He was also an ally of Hitler's Germany alongside Antonescu's Romania during World War II. Alongside Nazi Germany Italy was also a fascist supporter of the fascists in the Spanish Civil War and supported the rise of dictator Francisco Franco. The character Benito is named after him.
