The Rwandan Genocide was a genocidal mass slaughter in the country of Rwanda of the Tutsi population by the Hutu population from April 7 1994 to the RPF invasion of Rwanda on July 4. Between this period between 500,000 and 1,000,000 people were killed. The main participants were the Interahamwe and other Hutu extremist groups which were motivated by the radio station RTLM or Radio Television Libre des Mille Collines. Today Rwanda has two public holidays commemorating the genocide. The national commemoration period begins with Genocide Memorial Day on April 7 and concludes with Liberation Day on July 4. The week following April 7 is designated an official week of mourning. The genocide is also symbolic of the Sherwood Genocide, with the radio broadcasts symbolising the RTLM broadcasts, and the holidays commemorating the Genocide symbolise the holidays commemorating the Military dictatorship of Animalia.
